Chapter advisors
Selwyn Cornish
I have been an academic member of the ANU since 1966. I was previously at the University of Western Australia, where I was an undergraduate. I am currently a member of the School of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Commerce; I have served as Sub-Dean and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Commerce. My main fields of teaching and research are in the history of economic thought, the history of economic policy, and the economic development of India.
I have been the ANU's Dean of Students since 1992, having chaired the University Admissions Committee for six years before being appointed Dean of Students. I have been Bursar and Fellow of University House, and I am currently the Chair of the Governing Bodies of Fenner Hall, and Bruce, Burton and Garran Halls; I am the University's representative on the Council of John XXIII College.
Since 1991 I have been the chair of the ACT Board of Senior Secondary Studies. I have been an Adviser to the ANU Chapter of Golden Key since its establishment in 1995, and since February, 2002, I have been the Academic Coordinator of the Asia-Pacific Region of Golden Key. I was Golden Key Adviser of the Year in 1997-98.

The ANU Chapter of Golden Key was chartered in 1995. I think I was somewhat sceptical at the time. I saw signs around the campus carrying the Golden key logo, and as so many people say, it sounded like one of these American things and I didn't know how well it would fit into an Australian University. However, in 1997 when I was asked to be an Advisor I agreed, and I am so glad that I did. Through Golden Key I have met so many wonderful young people, marvelled at their enthusiasm and commitment and I have become really appreciative of the goals and values of Golden Key. Golden key has enriched my life, and it can enrich the lives of its members.
In the work part of my life, I lecture in Mathematics and I am a Sub Dean in the College of Science. I am so lucky to have work that I really like. I love my Mathematics and I love teaching it. Some students find Mathematics so difficult and I enjoy trying to make it understandable and interesting (not that I always succeed). Of course, none of us enjoy the assessment side so much, but it seems to be one of the necessities of life. I also enjoy my work as Sub Dean. That also keeps me involved with students, some of the time with students who are struggling for one reason or another, other times with students who just want to check their courses, or their readiness for graduation. It is a great privilege to be entrusted with significant parts of the lives of others, to cry together and also to laugh together.
In my spare time I enjoy walking the dog, doing cryptic crosswords and Sudoku, and sometimes playing computer games.

Deputy-Director of Student and Academic Services
Welcome to Golden Key. I have worked at ANU in the position of Associate Registrar since 2005. My role involves leading & managing a large group of staff to coordination the significant ANU activities of student admissions, enrolments, exams and graduations, as well as providing general services to the ANU student & staff community. I was previously at the University of Wollongong, where I was Deputy Registrar and Advisor to the fledgling but growing Golden Key Chapter.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree (major Industrial Relations) and a Master of Business. I am an honorary member of Golden Key and enjoy my role as chapter advisor very much.
There are many opportunities that active involvement in Golden Key can provide especially in the areas of leadership, management and community involvement. I bring many years experience of my personal involvement in those areas to assist and enhance opportunities for Golden Key members.
